Labrador Island Transmission Link Environmental Assessment
The Environmental Assessment process for the Labrador Island Transmission Link proposed by Nalcor Energy is currently ongoing. The LSDC, with regional partners, has applied for and received participant funding from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency to engage in this process. The funding will be used to engage researchers and others in reviewing SOME of the documents released by Nalcor related to the Labrador Island Transmission Link project and assist in providing thoughtful analysis of the impacts to the Labrador Straits region. Areas of focus will be impacts on marine fisheries in the Strait of Belle Isle, municipal infrastructure, and tourism industry impacts.
The LSDC has limited resources to engage in this process, which is quite comprehensive. We encourage all residents and stakeholders to become informed of this project and submit comments, attend public meetings organized by Nalcor Energy, or contact the provincial Department of the Environment if they have questions. Contacts for the Environmental Assessment Process are :
Mr. Pat Marrie, Project EA Chair, Dept of Environment and Conservation
