Vision Statement

Regional Economic Development Board Funding Cut by Federal and Provincial Governments
As a result of the federal and provincial government cuts to regional economic development the LSDC has lost its provincial funding as of July, 2012 and will lose its federal funding as of May, 2013. The LSDC was required by ACOA to submit a transition plan to the agency in order to secure funding to May 2013. Part of the transition plan outlines the process the LSDC will engage in to determine whether it can/will continue into the future or whether it will close. As part of this process the LSDC organized a regional meeting held on October 9th, 2012. This session was advertised and communicated to all municipalities, businesses, organizations in the region. It was also advertised to the general pubic.

Dr. Tom Cooper, Ph.D of the Faculty of Business, MUN facilitated the session where approximately 20 regional stakeholders discussed the future of the LSDC and community economic development in the Labrador Straits region. The report from this session can be found in the Reports section on the Documents page of this website.
